Until 1994 there were no roads in London

London Roads

Sounds so daft it has to be wrong surely?

Nope, it turns out that it is actually totally true.

Ok, so this relies on a technicality of the English language, but it’s still a fun fact. Most of the streets in the square mile of the City of London were actually built and named well before the word road was recognised in the English language. As such the square mile has an abundance of streets, alleys, lanes and squares, but until 1994 it did not have a road.
