We’ve all heard the old proverb, but is there any truth in it?
“Red sky at night, shepherd’s delight.
Red sky in the morning, shepherd’s warning.”
According to the proverb;
- A red sky at night will often mean that good weather is coming and on it’s way.
- A red sky in the morning means there is likely to be bad weather ahead today.
Why it works (in principle):
At sunset, red light means the sun is shining through dry, dust-filled air—often associated with high pressure and stable weather moving in. In the morning, red light can mean that clear air has passed and a storm system may be approaching.
The proverb is not 100% foolproof by any means. However it is actually a surprisingly decent rule of thumb
